If you haven't yet, you're going to want to tune in to our uber-busy TwitterMom of the Month, Beth Aldrich, 45. A married Chicago mom of three boys (ages 14, 13 and 8), Beth is also our very own nutrition expert on TwitterMoms!
Lucky for us, Beth is dedicated to telling busy moms exactly what we need to hear:
If we take care of ourselves, we're better able to care for others, and the earth. You may have noticed Beth's healthy eating blog posts, such as her recent ones on yummy
chicken wraps, or the one back in March in which she solved the mystery (for me) of how to pronounce (and cook)
quinoa. She also hosted a
Chicago TwitterMoms party in conjunction with our own Megan Calhoun, chef Tyler Florence and Wishbone.
Beyond TwitterMoms, Beth must have written the book on busy. She is a healthy/green lifestyle spokesperson and certified nutrition counselor, and runs her own media company. A former PBS TV series producer and host, Beth also hosts and produces a radio show, publishes an online magazine, and is at work on a companion book for her new site,
RealMomsLoveToEat.com (due out fall 2011).
In all, Beth owns and manages five websites (RealMomsLoveToEat.com;
ForHerInformation.com,
thegreenmom.blogspot.com; RestoringEssence.com; bethaldrich.com). Plus, she is a featured contributor here, as well as on Diet.com, HotMomsClub.com, Ecomom.com and Examiner.com (Chicago edition).
But what's really admirable about Beth goes beyond her obvious "Mogul" Mom-ness. Here's an excerpt from her essay in
Chicken Soup for the Soul: PowerMoms, in which she writes about a car accident she survived:
"I’ve always known that being a mother has given me membership to the greatest club in the world. But what the accident on that snowy January day gave me was a sharp reminder that
by simply loving and being with your kids, you are a Super Mom."
What is your greatest passion? "Aside from being the most compassionate, supportive and loving mother I can be, my greatest passion is to create media projects that encourage women to take care of themselves and cultivate others so together they can nurture the Earth. I want to be a positive image for women to influence health and well being in every mom I meet!"
What drives you crazy? "People who are not considerate of other people drive me crazy. When people overlook trash or disorder and don't do anything about it also makes me wonder, are they living 'awake' or 'asleep'?"
Favorite things? "My favorite things are my wedding ring from my husband (to represent his love and support for me), the three pictures of my sons on the days they were born (with me holding them-in the hospital-minutes after they were born) and (dare I say it) my iPhone, because it keeps me on time, organized, and it holds hundreds of pictures of "special" random moments with my sons and events in my life."
What fun things do you like to do with your family? "I love to snuggle in my bed with the entire family and watch movies. I also love to spend time with my family at our summer house in the Indiana dunes-playing golf, swimming, gardening and cooking out."
What celebrity would you like to meet, and why?"I would love to meet actor, Jackie Chan, because he seems like such a sweet man and I am so mesmerized by martial arts and his ability to do his own stunts."
