Thanks to Twittermoms, and OlgivyPR I was able to attend this incredible event that helps to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of women.
They day started out early for me - 4:15 am to be exact. But as Kristen Foster (
@kfoster926) from
OlgivyPR tweeted me as I was on the train, "Bags under the eyes for one day is just a little price to pay to support heart disease awareness, right? #hearttruth" and she was right.
I got to The Tent at Bryant Park and yes, Tent is capitalized because this is a huge tent, or really a collection of tents. A tent village, if you will, and within those walls the uber fashionable come to celebrate Fashion Week in New York.
I was talking to a few folks in line and The Red Dress Collection is becoming one of the more popular shows. For one, they had the right idea using celebs as models, and two, each dress is designed by a different designer. So you get to see a little bit of
Vera and a little bit of
Marchesa all in one show.
And yet the Red Dress theme, and the important message that women need to take care of themselves, their health, and specifically their heart, is evident not only in the red, but in the everyday women (like me) who are invited to watch the show. When you look around the room you realize the odds are, someone near you could end up with heart disease - and heart disease doesn't care if you're wearing Betsy Johnson, carry a Prada bag, or have a front row seat.
I encourage everyone on Twittermoms to visit
The Heart Truth website.
Download and print a copy of The Heart Truth for Women brochure.
Put it in an envelope and mail it off to your mom, your aunt, your sister, or your friend with a note that says "Just because I love you."
Then, come back and leave me a comment so I can prove that social media + women is a powerful way to spread the word about heart health.
