Here is a healthy way to kick off the New Year!  Resolutions for eating healthy can be tough to keep as the year goes on, but here is one idea we found to make it simple and special.  This smoothie is so delicious, it's perfect for everything from a weekday breakfast to a party dessert.  Seriously, and it's so pretty to serve.  Try one and you will see, then spread the love at your next get-together.  Your guests will appreciate being served a great treat that will meet their dietary goals (have recipe cards ready to hand out - they are sure to ask).


Mixed Berry Smoothie (makes 2 servings)

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 banana
  • ¾ cup nonfat plain or vanilla yogurt (use a brand with healthy cultures,
    I like Stonyfield)
  • 1/4 tsp. agave nectar (you can substitute 1/2 tsp. honey)
  • ¼ cup protein powder
  • 1/2 cup liquid (you can use skim milk, pomegranate juice, V8 V-Fusion Vegetable/Fruit juice Pomegranate Blueberry)

Add all ingredients to a blender, puree and pour. If you’re on the run, pour it into a disposable or travel cup, stick a straw in it and go.  You can also toss in flax seed – it changes the texture slightly, but it’s just one of those things that’s good for you (every little bit helps).

Mmmm... this sounds yummy with the agave nectar! I keep forgetting to pick up protein powder when I'm out & about... but my kids love smoothies. It's our post-gymnastics treat!
