So Black Friday and Cyber Monday are almost upon us, can you believe it?! My question for you is, will you use social media to score some holiday deals this season? You should! It's a great new way to save money.
Here are 7 ways you can discount your holidays with the joys of social media:
1) Follow and friend your favorite brands on Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare. They may very likely post special deals or give you a heads up on good deals via these outlets. It's not uncommon to offer Facebook-only coupons and deals. You'll also hear about other special contests and promotions they're offering.
2) Follow @EarlyBird on Twitter - Twitter posts deals from retailers, including most recently Calvin Klein, Jill Stuart and World Market.
3) Subscribe to Groupon, Living Social and local social buying programs in your area and check your email daily for their deals. Better yet, subscribe to a blog like
SouthernSavers.com (my favorite blog besides Mashable!)
http://www.southernsavers.com, which recaps the
top Groupon deals across the country that may not be local and thus still available to you, like national retailers or online stores.
4) Start checking into Foursquare, Facebook Places, SCVNGR and Yelp! All now let businesses offer special "deals" for checking into their location with your smart phone.
5) Subscribe to money-saving, couponer blogs, like
SouthernSavers mentioned above,
DealSeekingMom.com,
BargainBriana and
SaveWithSarah.com. Not only will you hear about deals as soon as they happen (be sure to check daily either with RSS or via an email subscription) but they'll likely host contests and giveaways that you can participate in.
6) Join in Twitter Parties. Lots of big brands will be hosting parties to create excitement around a product or line and they'll probably be giving out lots of goodies too. Become a member of
TwitterMoms.com where you'll hear about these parties and also get notices of contests to win prizes for blogging and tweeting.
7) The simplest? Subscribe to your favorite brands' email newsletters. You'll get notices of coupons, special deals, early warning of big sales, as well as special contests and promotions. Set up a separate email just for these so they don't flood your regular inbox and check the box daily (many only offer 24-hour deals or deals that are limited to a certain number of people).
