Homecomings Part 2

Airport 006

It was a normal sight to the untrained eye. A girl driving down the road on a rainy Wednesday. Cars waiting with me for red lights to change probably never gave me a second thought. I was just another red sports car with a “1/2 my heart is in Iraq” bumper sticker trying to get somewhere in a hurry. This car ride was far from normal though. I was on my way to the airport to pick up Michael for R&R. The last time we stood in the same place was three months ago when we… Continue

Homecomings Part 1

Any military family will tell you that homecomings are one of the most exciting events for us. They can be highly publicized by the media or go completely unnoticed by the general public. For those coming home and those who have been waiting none of that really matters. It's that first embrace that holds all the magic in the world. Homecomings Part 4

I ended up cutting a whole page (typed single spaced) from the beginning of this but its still pretty long. It takes place on a Sunday morning at a local war memorial. I had only just found out two days before this that Michael would be coming home so I was in shock. For this blog I wanted to give the whole story of those two days but I just decided I wanted to cut straight to the good stuff. :) Enjoy. I don't think words will ever do this memory justice, because its one of my absolute favorite… Continue

Homecomings Part 3

15 days after Part 2…

Doc Brown, I need you!

This place looks so different than it did a couple weeks ago. Because its only 5 o’clock in the morning the airport is considerably quiet. It’s not bright and exciting now but dim and depressing. Its possible the temperature outside is the same as last time but now I’m shivering. The one thing that remains the same is my stomach turning. It hasn’t slipped past me that people are staring this time too. They quickly figure out… Continue
