What the Heck Can You Do in the Hamptons With Kids?

By Eileen Gunn

The East End of Long Island is less than two hours from New York City and suprisingly rural, so parents often ask me what there is to do out there with kids. Unfortunately, everything I know about the Hamptons I’ve learned from watching Sex and the City and Revenge, which tend focus on adult pursuits like drinking, back-stabbing and adultery.

To find some better answers, 5-year-old Tiny Traveler and I headed out to the Riverhead…

Got the Big Blogger Butt Blues?

Is Your Butt Getting Bigger From Blogging?

Mine sure as hell has.

Bloody occupational hazard I tell you.

If you're like me and have kids to care for while working from home, you may be sitting on your butt a lot with the kids or at your desk.

Even before blogging, when I worked in the city, most of my day was spent sitting behind a…

Something Unexpected

The courtship with my husband, Colby, wasn’t typical. It wasn’t boy in bar + girl in bar = boy meets girl. As everything else in my life, meeting Colby wasn’t that simple. Our meeting was the stuff movies are made of.

“My Husband Drives Me Crazy!?#@” – Resolving Annoying Conflicts In Marriage

If you're married or you have had a boyfriend for a considerable length of time, I'm sure you've been there before. You get into an argument with your husband and he just drives you nuts. Why doesn't he get it? Something needs to be done and you're pretty sure you know the best way to do it but he thinks your way isn't right, smart or good enough. He has another way. Actually he doesn't think of it as another alternative. His is the best, most efficient and only way to get it done and…

Peanut Allergy - new trial brings new hope

I was on the phone the other day with my Mom in the UK and she told me that there had been a TV program on a couple of days ago about some trials that are due to take place for the peanut allergy. Sam my youngest has the peanut allergy aswell as a few others.

Anyway the trials are going on in Cambridge - they have already completed one smaller trial with great results - I knew about this one. You see I am constantly on the net anyway looking at how the research is going to find a… Continue

It Won't Be Like This For Long

I heard a song today that really grabbed my heart. "It won't be like this for long" by Darius Rucker. It reminded me that nothing lasts for long. We should embrace and enjoy the season of life we are in right now, and the season of life each of our children are in right now. In the song he sings about his baby girl crying, as babies do,and his wife reminding him "It won't be like this for long." The reality of life is our babies grow up. They grow quickly from one stage to another. Before you… Continue

Moms CAN Have LONG HAIR!

We went on location to a salon to help find out good style information for moms. We want to look great, even SEXY, but we DON'T want to look matronly, right?

So the first of 3 episodes (you can watch at http://www.lipsticknlaundry.com/) is up and we talked with Salon 120 owner Debbie McNeely to see if just because you're a mom, can you have long hair, and the answer was a resounding YES. But HERE'S the tip I want to share:

I didn't know this, (you might have), but you can… Continue

A spooky into to get us going

With Halloween only a few days away, I thought a bit of witchery would maybe be in order, so a bit on the topic of

Hag stones and Halloween

Hag stones are a charm of folk magic that are found predominantly in European lore, and they are simply a stone with a hole in it. They are used to keep away hags or witches that may come a-knockin' at night time. If you were to hang one on your bed post you would prevent a hag from giving you a nightmare , and putting one in the stable… Continue
