Forgotten Lunch
As a parent, I have three jobs. My jobs are to love my children, keep them safe, and to teach them about life. I take my jobs very seriously. So when Hunter walks away from me in a parking lot, I grab her arm and jerk her back to my side. If my yelling makes her cry, maybe she can understand my fear.
If I hug my children when all they want to do is run away from home, maybe they will feel my love through their anger. And, if I get an opportunity to teach them a lesson in life, I…

Join me as we get our kids outside and into the garden!
It's spring and not a moment too soon! So grab your hat and slather on the sunscreen cause we're going outside to garden. And it will be easier than you think and more fun than you ever dreamed.
Kids and nature are a natural fit. From bugs to worms, corn husk dolls to scarecrows, they will delight in the myriad of activities their garden presents. And trust me--you'll have a good time as well. How can you not when witnessing your child's eager harvest of their…

Today, I hang my head in shame. Attempting to keep the tears at bay & failing dismally, I contemplate ending it all & making that leap over the Brink Of Insanity. Surely I deserve such a fate, throwing myself in to the abyss, after a day that finally saw my children turn on me…nearly in unison, almost as one, declaring me the “worst Mommy ever!”. And what was it that brought…

The biggest thing I’ve learned as a parent, is the biggest thing I struggle with the most as a parent. Because it demands that I engage in a constant inner struggle with the very fabric of my being. Here’s the lesson…BEFORE I give in to my immediate reactions, stop & ask myself: are MY opinions/actions/decisions what’s best for THEM?? It’s usually not…thus the struggle. Having to back down, bite my tongue, stay out of it, go with the flow, often requires a massive dose of happy pills…

Lessons From Marlee Matlin
My evening last night didn’t quite start out on the right note. In fact, I called my friend, a subscriber to this Blog, and told her, “I’ve just left my house with World War 2 going on.” I had to leave at 6:30pm to attend a charity
event, and put my hubby in charge of finishing up dinner, homework and bath. As
I was leaving, my 3 year old was running around naked, my big son was twirling
the food around in his plate, and there was just enormous chaos during…

Lessons My Father Taught Me
Sunday is Father’s Day. A very special day for Dads everywhere. I wrote a Mother’s Day Tribute, so it is only fair to do the same for Father’s Day. But today, Dad, it’s all
about you. I always Blog about mom, and rarely about you. But you have
impacted my…

Today was the day that I hit the wall, I woke up crying and spent most of the day crying. What could it possibly be that was making me so sad? Well I think it was a little bit of everything and a lot of nothing. I am somewhat of a control freak, but not in a "Type A" way just in an I have to have control so that I know what is going on way. And in the last few weeks I have lost control.
My oldest son is moving on with his life and going to college in a few weeks; my youngest son…

Lessons from the Tortoise

Dieting, in this country, seems to be more focused on quick, dramatic results, rather than a sustainable plan. So, if we don't see a 10-pound weight loss within the first couple of weeks, we feel like we've failed. Then, it's back to the drawing board, bag of chips and Mountain Dew in hand, to nurse our bruised ego and to…

One of the pieces of advice that is dispensed to parents is to rest, take time, be patient. When this advice is ignored or pushed to the side or momentarily forgotten, the results can be comic, tragic, or ludicrous. Whatever the outcome, it is a sobering reminder that an ounce of prevention(through listening to and heeding sage advice) is indeed worth many pounds of a cure.
Case in point: Doula Angelita.…
