The Path of Least Resistance

When I first became a parent, I remember very clearly my mother advising me to "choose my battles carefully". It was her belief, and soon became mine, that when raising children, you must not put yourself in a position of "dictator". "Growing up shouldn't be a battlefield" my mother would say.

Her words were always in the back of my mind as I was raising my daughter (now 32) and are still a very large part of my parenting philosophy as I now raise my grandchildren.

The… Continue

Parents love the part about their children thinking positive thoughts, choosing positive actions, and being grateful for what they have in their life. However, as you go further into the meaning and purpose of children… Continue

Raising Kids...Relate vs. Dictate

If you want to alienate your kids, create an atmosphere that says “I am the boss and you will obey!” On the other hand, if you want a relationship with your kids, create an atmosphere that says “I am here to help you!”

There's Nothing New Under the Sun

“There’s nothing new under the sun” is a commonly used phrase in the fields of psychology and self-help. It means that most every theory or philosophy has been studied, researched, and then presented to the masses in one form or another, some for hundreds of years. Authors and experts interpret these theories and integrate their insights and opinions, but the core information remains virtually the same.

What is new is the awakened attitude of millions of people worldwide. Human… Continue

2010:The Year of the Awakened Parent

If asked if you are you an “awakened” parent you would probably pause to consider what that actually means. What constitutes being an awakened parent? Many equate the term “awakened” with “eyes wide-opened” or being “aware”. In terms of parenting, to be awakened means to be conscious of what your role as a parent consists of…examining your role, determining if it is working to produce the results you intend, and finally, making necessary changes to achieve those goals.

Your Children Only Get One Childhood

I am the first one to say parenting is serious business. After all, I’m not only a mother and a grandmother, my work as an author is based on parenting as well. And like most parents, I focus on how and what my children learn, especially during their formative years. The formative years are the most important years in terms of the characteristics and traits they obtain and carry into their adult lives.

Parents place an enormous amount of energy on their children’s academic education,… Continue

Re: Relieving Holiday Stress

Ah, the holidays, we look so forward to them until they are here and remember how stressful it can actually be.

What has been going on in my mind is the Advent Conspiracy I have been hearing about on CNN and Youtube. It's something that my husband and I and some other friends have actually been talking about before I heard mention of it. We weren't really discussing the religious aspect of it, but the whole point of holidays, which is to spend… Continue
