BONNIE PRUDDEN--A Life Well-Lived--Fitness Pioneer

Today is February 27, 2012.  I received a letter,  with a clipping of the New York Times Obituary about my favorite RN continuing education instructor, Bonnie Prudden, from her wonderful assistant and friend, Enid Whittaker.  Bonnie was a fitness pioneer and founder of Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy®. She passed away at her home in Tucson on December 11, 2011.

She would have been 98 on January 29th.…

Psych Appointment….

http://bipolar2happiness.com/2012/01/20/psych-appointment/

I have not posted about my appointments with my doctor before so this is kind of new for me. Just a couple of thoughts I will share today about my appointment with Dr. S.

I dropped the kids off today and ran off to the doctor immediately as my…

Reconnecting

I have always valued my close friends.  To be honest, our relationships have transcended friendship and expanded my family.  And even though I might be out of touch with some of my friends, when we get together it's just like old times.  It is a testament to the depth of our friendships.  True friends do not need to talk to and see each other everyday.  The bonds are deep and do not need constant nurturing.

Recently, I decided to reconnect with some friends from my old Staten Island…

8 Warning Signs of an Abusive Relationship

Anyone can be in an abusive relationship.  While some physical signs might be easy to identify, psychological abuse and emotional abuse are often missed.  No one deserves to feel worthless, disrespected, or unsafe.  Here are 8 warning signs to help you recognize that you might be in trouble :

Your partner has a bad temper, and you’re always walking on eggshells most of the time around him or her, avoiding certain topics because you fear it may lead to explosive and violent…

Just Say No by Zaharah Zaidi ( A Tween Perspective on Substance Abuse)

When you become a tween/teen, you are exposed to many negative influences and may be forced to make life-changing decisions.  It’s a time when you go to middle school or high school and have to confront all types of  peer pressures, including drugs, alcohol, and smoking.  It is easy to give into temptation and go with the flow to protect your “cool” status.  But the end result could be addiction or even death.

Many children think that it’s okay to try drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes. …

Let's Talk Driving Under the Influence

Take a good look at the picture above.  Does it shock you?  Well this is what could happen to you if you start using drugs and alcohol.  With the death of British singing sensation Amy Winehouse and what would have been my brother Larry's 46th birthday looming, I have been giving a lot of thought to the dangers of using drugs and alcohol.  Sadly, it has become so commonplace in our society that we have become apathetic about the dangers of substance abuse.  Often when we hear that a…

Beautiful Skin From the Inside Out

Skin needs to be healthy in order to look its best. As a nurse, I knew this, but I never did much to take care of my skin. I knew I should drink more water to keep it hydrated and used lotion once in a while, but that was about it. Then in January 2009, I was diagnosed with skin cancer on my nose. There’s nothing like having surgery to remove cancer from your face plus two reconstructive surgeries to get a person’s attention! Last year, I developed a rash on my wrists and hands and found out… Continue

The Melancholy of Change...An Early Morning Revelation

The Melancholy of Change: An Early Morning Revelation....

"All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to the one life before we can enter another." -Anatole France

Toddlers and Tiaras: Now Botox Injections For Kids

Posted on 3girlsblogging.com on May 13, 2011

Have you ever seen TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras reality series?  I have never been able to watch a full episode.  Five minutes is my limit.  It’s so vile how these mothers are (for lack of a better word) pimping their children.  Get a life, ladies?  How will your children grow to become a normal, productive members of society when you’re teaching them to be vain and…

Toyless Happy Meals?

Why do children really want "Happy Meals"? Is it the greasy chicken nuggets or salty fries? More likely, they are drawn to the action figure or Disney character cleverly packaged along with the meal. Some parent's occasionally offer their children Happy Meals, while others purchase the calorically dense boxed food several times each week.

Last year, San Francisco began to ban toys from fast food meals that did not comply with healthier nutrition guidelines. According to the…
