SocialMom of the Month: Meet Jonna Quigg!

When you grow up surrounded by cornfields, what is the statistical likelihood that you'll one day be a marine biologist? I'm no math genius, but I'm guessing it's pretty low.

Somehow, our new SocialMom of the Month is beating those odds.

Meet…

Virtual classes: Popular "homeschool" method for troubled kids

We're seeing a growing number of kids (specifically troubled boys and younger girls who end up pregnant) who are finishing high school via homeschooling through online classes. Do you have any input on the value or problems associated with online classes?

According to the Maricopa County (Arizona) Homeschool Specialist, there is a growing number of people who are homeschooling students who no longer are able, due to…

Gifts for Grads, Dads, Teachers, Newlyweds, Birthdays and Babies

…that should cover it! I find this time of year even more challenging than the holidays in December and am always looking for creative, beautiful gifts for Teachers, Grads, Father’s Day, Baby Showers, Weddings…Whew. I am probably forgetting something, too. Really, I am frequently forgetting things…peri-menopause or something worse? You make the call.

Since our school system has a strict no gift policy that no one adheres to…oops, I mean, everyone does…really, they do. It is not as if…

A little praise for a little lady

More and more, the following conversation seems to take place, usually at pre-school or on a play date.

Random parent or teacher, "You know Richard, you really should have a girl, you would love one".

Me, "If they sold them at stores, I'd think really hard about it."

And so another conversation that has potential to go into detail about a third child and even more potential for us to end up with another dog or cat (see last blog) comes…

Today's a big day

Today my 15 year old boy started his summer job as a summer camp counselor. He did all the leg work, calling, applying and was up and ready to go early this morning. I'm not sure why but this made me a little emotional. it could be becuase my only child is turning a corner and becoming a young man. It's a great thing I know, but I can still picture that 3 year old running towards me with his little legs pumping away and ready to jump into my arms. Oh, he stills hugs me because he is…

Here to make friends, network and help other moms learn a new skill.

I am very glad I found the Social Moms network.  It seems like a great place to meet like-minded moms who want to help others.  I am a medical transcriptionist by profession and have been doing it for more than 25 years now.  It is one of those careers that is always in need and can be done from either a home or an office/hospital setting.  For mothers who want to stay home with their children in their formative years, it is the perfect situation.  I found that many of the online transcription… Continue

I Know Why They Prefer Dad

Ever since my children were little, they’ve preferred Dad.  I could spend the entire day with them playing, crafting, and baking, but when Dad comes home, he is the toast of the town.  Don’t get me wrong,  I’m not jealous.  But there are moments when I feel like chopped liver.  Where is my appreciation?  It takes a lot of energy to plan and coordinate activities.

Just this morning, my youngest Arman woke me up and asked for his DSI.  I told him, “Remember the deal? That since everyone…
