What’s the Point of Making New Year’s Resolutions?

This time of year so much focus is put on the new year’s resolution. Stores stock up on workout clothing and equipment, ‘healthy’ food, and aids to quit smoking. Analysts dig up the current statistics on the top ten resolutions, and the average length of time people keep their resolutions. Perspective on Uncle Larry

I grew up in a very fragmented family. My parents divorced when I was 2, and my Dad disappeared until I was 9. He visited me for a few months, and then disappeared again. Because of this I was never given the opportunity to get to know anyone on that side of my family.

2010 is a blank sheet of paper. How will you fill it?

The New Year is a blank sheet a paper. Its just white space and black lines waiting to be filled in. Every year, I get a leather bound diary. I love flipping through the blank pages looking at all the empty dates. It excites me. The prospect of all those empty days awaiting me. All those blank pages waiting for me to write down appointments from mundane dentist appointment to the extraordinary meeting that might take my life in an entire new trajectory.
