I know it's a little late in the day, but since I've had a marathon week of events
, I've had time to think about the ways you can drive traffic and awareness to your book or brand by following some simple steps. Here are some of my thoughts on ways to make your mark in an incredibly saturated field.
1. FOCUS ON YOUR AREA OF EXPERTISE
- If you're the "Coupon Queen" or a Nutrition or Fitness Guru or maybe you're a fashionista (hello… Continue

I remember when I was pregnant with my second child -- everyone told me he would be a challenge. My other son was 10 years old at the time and he was the perfect child (and still is). So, the curse began...
When Bubba (not his real name! but my mom calls him that) was born I was comforted by how mellow and sweet he was. At 1 month he was pretty much sleeping through the night. I was blessed with 2 easy children.
And then I woke up!
Bubba quickly became a… Continue

Just received this information in a monthly newsletter that I receive from Pear Tree Greetings. I ordered birth announcements from them and was extremely pleased with both the quality of print and speed of service!
"We have lots of great ideas about what to feature in this newsletter, but we’re more interested in what YOU want to see. Would you like to see new products available for purchase, products coming soon, testimonials, product reviews? All of the above, or something entirely… Continue

Broad daylight. Walking alone to the car from a convenience store. No different than any other day. You hear the typical epithets. Towelhead. Raghead. Sandn**ger. For some of us this is part of the daily grind. Unfortunate, but true. But there was a difference today. Being shoved into a car, pushed to the sidewalk. Spit on. Unbelievable. What was even more appalling is that there were other people out there. Watching the atrocity. Perhaps they were too shocked to stop it. Perhaps their lack of… Continue

The Food Network. Top Chef. Iron Chef. Emeril. Ina. Jamie. Paula. Rachel.
Today, you can't have a top restaurant without a marquis chef. Clearly, chefs are celebrities in their own right as food prep, exotic ingredients and creative presentation have captured the imaginations and appetites of Americans everywhere. Eating and entertainment have become synonymous and we just can't seem to get enough.
Quite literally, we somehow remain unsated. Our country is facing a health… Continue

I have recently completed a 9 Day Fasting program designed through the Beachbody products. It was an amazing experience, and one that I will routinely utilize for the shear fact of it's necessity. I was a skeptic at first, although after much research and affirmation, I recognized the good it does for one body. In light of that, I wanted to share an article as posted in a Beachbody® newsletter, by Steve Edwards.
By definition, anytime that you don't eat, you are fasting; hence the… Continue

I have several illnesses that require my taking several medications. Unfortunately, the majority of my meds are controlled substances. Here in Oklahoma (and several other places), we have a registry that keeps track of who gets what controlled substances. Even though pseudofedrine isn't a controlled substance, it's on the list because people apparently use it to make meth or something. WalMart has gotten into the act as well. You can't purchase liquid paper, spray paint and several other items… Continue

My friend is having man troubles. I think at some point in our lives we all have troubles with the opposite sex. But the year has just begun and it's far too early for man-drama (or woman drama). People let's set some ground rules right now.
1. Desparation is a stinky cologne. If you've called him 3 times in a row and he hasn't returned your call. It is time to move on. Unless he's in Iraq, in a coma' or dead then there is really no excuse for not returning a call. The same for… Continue

This is a conversation with a dear friend. Actually, it is a compilation of conversations, chats, emails, phone calls that we have been having over the past year with more and more frequency. Our commonality is that we all have teen children. Some boys, some girls, some both.
Something has happened this year, last year. Our teens are on fire.
No matter what their upbringing- a mansion in Nichols Hills or the projects- they have apparently lost their collective minds. We have… Continue

I have noticed over the past few days on the "reputable" news sources -both television and print- referring to POTUS as Mr. Obama. Now, I'm sure that the PRESIDENT has too many things on his mind (thanks to the mess that Mr. Bush left behind to clean up) to concern himself with such a small symbol of disrespect. Many of us, however, are reading the paper and watching the news and we are not happy.
I will give you an out and assume that it's just a subconscious faux pas. Perhaps they… Continue

It happens every year and this time I'm just tired of it. Tragedy after tragedy. Someone dies. Someone is found dead. Someone is hurt, treated unfairly, almost killed, a victim of malpractice, mistreatment.
At the end of the year (as every year), there is the perfunctory list of "celebrity" deaths throughout the previous year. 2007 was dominated by Anna Nicole Smith. Who would get the body, who would get the baby, who would really cared? She was drugged out, overpaid, untalented (or at… Continue

It wasn't until President Barack Hussein Obama took the oath of office to become officially the 44th President of the United States that it hit me. This is real. This is really real. I have had since November 4th to wrap my mind around this in theory. I have known for awhile that this day was coming. But this is the first time that the emotion of the moment overcame the logic. This is the first time that the tears flowed freely, that my heart felt full, but sad and disheartened. We have come so… Continue

Yes, people, this is the kind of trivial crap the Internet is so good at sharing with the world. The actress best known for being married to Sacha Baron Cohen—the guy who does Borat—“admitted” to have been wearing the ab-flattening briefs ever since she gave birth to a baby girl in 2007. Can’t we just love our mummy tummies?
Now, I admit that I will be sorry indeed should the day ever come when my gut sticks out further than my boobs. But until then, I am a proud owner of a mummy… Continue

Some text for your Mother's Day cards and emails
Motherhood has a very humanizing effect. Everything gets reduced to essentials.
Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.
Or for your birthday cards and emails:
True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.

Peanut butter is practically it's own food group in our household.
Besides the standard peanut butter and jelly sandwiches my children enjoy, peanuts and peanut butter are an ingredient in cookies, snack bars, ice cream, and a filling for our favorite savory snack, peanut butter crackers. I cannot think of a more trusted ingredient in our family's diet.
So, when I heard about the FDA recall of peanut butter and a wide variety of peanut butter products, I absolutely wanted… Continue
