Congress may have passed an $819 billion dollar stimulus package this week but I've been working on my own strategies to stretch the family dollar. A trip to the supermarket for a family of four living in the Big Apple can induce heart palpitations when the cashier hits the total key. I find myself second guessing everything in my cart before heading to the checkout these days. It's like a game of Survivor with produce and canned goods filling in for the contestants.
Flash forward to…

"In the last few years, I've been writing about spending time with your under 5 kiddo doing activities that are open ended, developmentally appropriate, spontaneous, creative, not necessarily craft based, doing it for the sake of it and not for a specific product, using exploratory play, encouraging no-battery play, and finding and using interesting items we have at home.
This style of play with wooden blocks, sheets for tents, can seem strangely old fashioned and slow in a world of…

This is beautiful - a baby born w/ polydactyly (12 toes and 12 fingers) - I really like how they talk about it as a "beautiful variation" and not as something wrong with this child. http://www.ktvu.com/news/18608582/detail.html

WOW, This first month in 2009 had gone by so fast. Glad to be back in FLorida, but have had some really cold weather, down in the 30's. That is very unusal for the Tampa Bay area. It is a beautiful day to day, cold but the sun is shining. Just doing some computer work and cleaning while watching I Love Lucy.

Physical movement and dance are wonderful ways to help your children explore their feelings and experiences without directly talking about them. Turn up the music in your home and watch your children show you how they feel with their bodies. Have fun dancing like animals, being windmills and creating short skits or dances with movement and music.
Today’s children often have to sit in school for long periods of time without very much physical movement. Moving your body fuels…

To celebrate the Chinese New Year Theo's class had moon cakes! Theo being the sweet big brother he is ( and an incredible picky eater) brought home his moon cake for his sister. Theo also brought in a copy of the Great Race to share with his class. The Great Race is a fantastic book that tells the story of the Chinese Zodiac. Gabbie and her class painted a card board box and used it to make a dragon head for there parade! So fun!!! …

I have been so neglectful! Sorry about that. It is the story of *Be careful what you wish for*. I have always wanted to get a good blogging job and an agent and start publishing books. Well, check, check, check! It is so nice to not have to slog through freelance writing jobs, but it IS a lot of work. Less sleep and more writing.
I am so busy keeping up with everything(happily) that I haven't been keeping up with the fun stuff too.
It is a 60 degree day here in Nebraska. Hard to…

I must admit that the breaking news of the miraculous octuplet birth had me crooning and swooning as I always do over newborn babies. As were the moms on the
True Mom Confessional my thoughts went to the practical queries, "are they healthy?", "How will she breastfeed them?" and of course, "What will John & Kate (plus their 8...) think?"
But as more details have been released - that the mother is single (please note I have NOTHING…

There are an estimated 1.46 to 2.46 million children with ADHD in the United States, constituting 3 to 5 percent of the school student population. It has been documented that approximately 25 to 30 percent of all children with ADHD also have learning disabilities. I did it, I did it !
After last week's disaster of gaining 500 grams, this week was a party !!!
I lost 1,4 kilos in 1 week which is the biggest loss I have ever experienced in my Weight-Watchers career.
Now, I am a realist so I know that next week it won't look this good again but for this week I am ENJOYING IT!!!
Hope you all had a good week as well.
Talk to you soon.

Those of you who love the American game of football, may be thrilled because it’s that time again for Superbowl Sunday. American’s day at the Coliseum, lion vs. man, with tons of funny commercials selling us junk food, overpriced shoes and gas guzzling trucks all together with an over-hyped musical performance in the middle of the event.
Where does that leave those of us who are not motivated by such a day of events?
Many women have said “enough!” We are done trying…

Many parents will tell me that their disorganized child doesn't give a ......hoot...about getting organized. I'm not so sure about that. Who wants to lose their homework, forget where they placed their keys, and get in trouble for being disorganized? I tell moms that their children aren't lazy but are beaten down by the consequences of being disorganized. Maybe the reason why these kids are still disorganized is because no one has ever identified the child as having a certain organizing style.…

Even for an avid food lover, such as myself, eating 5 days a day, seems like a full-time job in itself. The common rule is to eat every 2 - 3 hours to keep your metabolism in fat burning mode. As many of us have our hands full with feeding other little mouths, driving to and from soccer practice, cleaning the house, laundry and on and on, we lose sight of ourselves and being sure we have ample energy to accomplish all of this in a days work...oh, and not forget to feed ourselves.
So…
