Top 5 Cleaning Tips from a Lazy Clean Freak

I'm a total clean freak. If my house is clean, I somehow feel better about life in general (read: when it's dirty and messy I get angry and feel like I'm losing my mind. Clean house = Good mom/wife/person). I spend a LOT of time and exert a LOT of energy tidying, sweeping, wiping, wiping and wiping. What's that saying? About how cleaning when there are growing kids in the house is like...what? Yeah, I don't even know the saying because I don't listen. I futilely clean anyway. Obviously having 3…See More

Are YOU ready to have a baby?

Having a baby is a HUGE decision.  I mean, one of the biggest in your life.  Not only will you have a baby, who needs you on every level for SURVIVAL, you will also have said baby for the rest of your/their life, with varying levels of neediness. So, how do you know when or if you're ready to have a child?I used to think I didn't want children.  At least, that's what I said.  I also said I never wanted to get married, but that was a defense mechanism that I used to protect myself from ridicule…See More

Hardly a baby?

This morning at church, while in conversation with a couple of women, I mentioned something about my baby.  One woman said, "Oh, he's HARDLY a BABY anymore!"I replied, with sad puppy-dog eyes, "Well, he's still MY baby!" Seriously?!!  He's not even 10 months old! Anyways, obviously that stupid, small and flippant comment really got to me.  I think any child up to about 18 months is a baby.  And MY baby is definitely still a baby!  I mean, besides the fact that he's not even crawling yet…See More

New babies and pets - Not always fun

Animals are people too.Yeah, okay, I know they're not REALLY people, but I am convinced that they feel some of the same feelings that people feel. They feel fear, concern, nervousness, worry, happiness, joy and probably a lot more.I read this hilarious post this morning about two dogs and how they dealt with moving. Read it here. It's long, but seriously worth reading. It portrays the feelings these animals had VERY well (and I was crying from laughing so hard). The post made me think about our…See More

And THAT, my friends, is why I blog!

I often have to reevaluate my motivations for blogging, because thereare lots of reasons to. Bloggers have been known to do everything fromsimple venting to paid ads and accepting sponsorships. When I startedblogging, I didn't even know that companies sought out bloggers to doreviews on their products, or paid bloggers to advertise on their site.I never had any interest in such things. Still don't. I find heavilysponsored blogs SUPER annoying, and am hesitant to read them. A few adsis one…See More

Everything I Wish I Had Known Before Giving Birth

When pregnant, there are a lot of things a woman must do to prepare for her baby. It's hard to know what's really important. It seems like you need a never-ending amount of stuff (you really don't). It seems like everyone's got a book they think you should read (fyi - most of them are bullshit - just trust your intuition).A lot of mothers spend a lot of time preparing for the birth, and not for the reality of bringing a baby home (like preparing for the wedding, but not the marriage).I feel…See More

The not-so-perfect mother - on finding BALANCE

I've been thinking a lot lately about values. Specifically values related to parenting. You already know what my values are - I believe in breastfeeding, in babywearing, in responding promptly to my baby, in not letting him "cry it out" for my convenience, in cloth diapers and green living, in leaving him intact and doing my best to learn and respond to his cues.I have to admit, I've done fairly well. Some days I've been pretty proud of myself. I mean, it's pretty easy to be "the perfect…See More

Breast vs. Bottle: Who receives harsher judgement?

We all know that as parents, we are going to be at the receiving end of some undeserved, or sometimes deserved judgment. Parents judge each other for different choices, people without kids judge those who have kids, grandparents judge their own kids' parenting. It's never ending. We are all judged at some point, and at some point I think we all judge someone else.Since I've been immersed in the mommy world on the interwebs, I've been shocked at the amount of judging and downright criticizing…See More

"Good" Babies, "Easy" Babies, Happy Babies and Sleeping Through the Night.

One of the most annoying questions I got from people in the first couplemonths of Will's life was, "Is he a good baby?" Tons of people askedme that. In fact, almost everyone who talked to me.Is that just the question to ask? What does that mean? What does a baby have to do to be "good?"Of course, every time someone asked me that I'd say, "Yes, he'sawesome." To which they would reply, "Oh, is he sleeping through thenight?"Oh, is THAT what they mean by "good" baby?!! Because then I have a very…See More

Babywearing Adventures

Back when Will was just a tiny little bug, I wore him around the house all the time in my wrap. He would just sleep, and I would get lots done! Then he got a bit bigger and his legs had to stick out. He sometimes faced in, and then when he wanted to look around, he started to face out.Later I bought a sling, and he liked the hip hold when we went for walks. But lately, we've been having some issues. He's 19 pounds, and the front carry in the wrap is getting uncomfortable. The sling is okay for a…See More

C-Section Depression

You might be wondering why I'm still moaning about the C-Section I had 7 months ago, when there are more pressing concerns in my life, like, say, my husband getting laid off while I'm on Mat leave (55% income).Well, I just am, okay?My husband thinks I should probably get over it. I'm okay, and our son is thriving. But I'm NOT over it.And I figure it's better to deal with it now so that all the feelings don't just resurface next time I'm in the middle of giving birth. Next time, I want to be more…See More
