Snow Beautiful

Wow. The forecasters weren’t kidding when they warned us of this one. Woke up this morning to find the snow had piled all the way up to the base of my bird-feeder. Quite a feat, considering it hadn’t even begun when I went to sleep last night.I love days like this. Hunkered down inside, warm (thank God, we still have electricity), and cozy. Sheet-washing, cookie-baking, good-book reading, Scooby-Doo watching days. Forced to make the errands and running around wait for another time. Thankful to…See More

What Happens In ...

To inaugurate my 40th year, my husband surprised me with a weekend getaway.  Think you can figure out where?! Let me throw a few clues your way.It had beautiful spring weather. New England Spring, anyway. 55 degrees and The Man and I walked around without coats and soaked in the sun. You could tell who was from warmer climates, because those folks were bundled up in parkas and scarves. Poor souls. I pitied them for thinking this was cold. Is it legal to wear a parka under a palm tree?…See More

Wonders Never Cease

Today was the first “normal” day of our new year. The Man was back to work and The Boy was back to school. I was back to whatever it is that I do on a given day: run errands, buy new vacuum cleaner bags, return books to the library, psychologically prepare for The Boy’s first skating lesson. I was looking forward to getting back into a routine and maybe crossing a few things off my to-do list, but I had prepared for a challenge when it came to getting the two of us out the door.Mornings are not…See More

My New Year's Revolution

I LOVE January. Love, love, love it. December is a blessing, with all the family and joy and closeness (and excitement!) it brings, but by comparison, some folks think January’s a let-down. Not me.January brings a whole new year to work with. It’s a “calm” after the storm: what else would you call freaking out because you realized two more folks were showing up at your Christmas dinner and you have nothing for them, or coming to the conclusion that all the toys your 4-year-old mentioned back in…See More

Visions of Sugar Plums, or "Oh, All The Sweet Stuff of Christmas"

Yesterday morning The Boy woke up while I was blow-drying my hair. I switched the dryer off and heard the pitter-patter of frantic little feet racing through the house. When I bumped into him as he dashed by the bottom of the stairs, he looked up at me and said, “Where ARE they?! They’re not under the tree!”I immediately knew what had happened. Poor little bug woke up, took one look outside, and saw a gorgeous blanket of snow. He immediately thought White Stuff = Christmas, and began an excited…See More

I Want S'More!

This past weekend, we had a bunch of our close friends over for a dinner party, which I have to say, went off without a hitch. Quite a success story considering we had five little boys present (age 6 and under), we pumped them full of sugar, put them in a room with crafts and Christmas specials, and kept them awake until midnight or so.One of the secrets to their happiness (in this cook’s mind anyway) was the S’Mores Ice Cream I made especially for the occasion. I’d found the recipe one late…See More

A Boy and His Dog

I had a good thing going. It was easy. It was simple. It gave The Boy such satisfaction: the relationship he had with his beloved blue sidekick, a ragtag little dog named Bobo. I'm not sure who passed this small stuffed gift-from-God to him the day of my/his baby shower, but I know that they probably had no idea at the time what effect that precious pooch would have on Matt. Bobo is a trusted friend, never far from his side when duty calls: bedtime, belly aches, even stealing away in his…See More

Michelle Colasante replied to Megan Calhoun's discussion Weekly Commenting Contest: How do you stay energetic throughout the day?
"Coffee. Coffee. Clean. Clean. Out with The Boy. Coffee. Laundry. More Coffee. So I guess my answer boils down to this: constant motion (spurred on by caffeine). If I sit, I might as well call it a day!"

Look Mom, I'm 40!

Can you believe it?! It’s been quite some time since I last saw you, and so many things have changed. I’m older {clearly}, stronger, wiser. I wonder what you’d think of me today?

I have a wonderful life.

I’ve celebrated 11 years of wedded bliss {despite maybe an argument or two}. I know what it’s like to love and be loved.

I have a son. That child you wished for us! You would love him. He’s a joy. He’s a comedian. He lives to make people laugh. There’s no doubt…

Pony Up!

As you know, I love winter. It’s beautiful, despite the cold (c’mon, you can always add another layer). When the snow first falls, it’s whiter-than-white, which is just the prettiest color to any neat freak like me. I love how crisp and clean the landscape outside my door looks. I love crock pot foods and the thought of hibernating. The only problem I can find in this season of possible school closings: even neat freaks get cabin fever. Especially if…
