When I was 15, I worked at a doctor’s office. It was my first job, and I was so very excited. It was a beautiful little place for me. Safely tucked under my aunt’s arm (who had worked there for as long as I could remember) I was able to taste a bit of independence all the while feeling very protected and welcome and safe.

People say that there's nothing like the bond between a mother and son. I have to disagree. I sat with my daughter last night and had the most delightful teatime chat. I watched her comb her hair in the mirror, singing one of the many songs she has made up and looking as beautiful as ever. Lucy was playing on the floor with her baby gym, and babbling up a storm.
