WOW, your blog is awesome. I wish I had your eye for positioning and color.

1) Title this page - http://burbmom.net/tag/double-oak/sitemap - are you using XML site map, too?

2) Add target="_blank" and rel="nofollow" to any links that you do not intend to share SE exposure with. So not your client's links, but ones like the links at the bottom of your page that lead to wordpress, log in, brian gardener and the revolution theme source. No need to let them suck your rankings. You should add a link to your blog as the first link in that line up - either before or somewhere near the Copyright © 2008 · All Rights Reserved.

3) There is an excellent SEO all in one plugin for Wordpress that will permit you to get more targeted with page titles and you would also want to consider using the primary region(s) in the blog title as well. For example, http://burbmom.net/new-program-takes-local-school-worldwide/ - post title could include Local Argyle School. BTW - that SEO plugin overrides where you would like - just leave it blank to keep the titles at default.

4) You could start adding one or two cities in the alt tags. BTW - this image has no alt at all: http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq297/shaunacallaghan2/connect.jpg - this image says photobucket: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p202/redray19/mouthwateringbutto...

5) You could start a deep linking process to the regional tags. Links from geo relative sites - make some links say Burb Mom and link in with city and keywords.

6) Add RSS to any Ning profile that you can.

There's lots that you can do. This is a start.

I have added the Wordpress SEO plug in. It is amazingly easy compared to my other blogger blog where I have been chipping away at all that stuff one by one! I am currently using the Wordpress site map. Do you think I need something more than that?

When you talk about the plugin overriding...does that mean that for instance, it would change the word "local" to "Argyle", etc?

I have been trying to add geographic terms to all my images.

We are rolling out a sister site this week from a nearby county which will make it easier to link somethings back and forth and infiltrate the market...in a nice infitrating way...

If you don't mind me picking your brain a little about the 'no follow' stuff. Can I use that anywhere? what would you suggest. I want to get to the point that advertisers would pay for links (instead of paying for an article - we want the freedom to write about anything, but if they wanted their website or other information linked to the article they would pay a fee) does the 'no follow' stop the spiders completely? If we added the 'no follow' tags to all the non-paid directory entries would that help our page rank?

I have been playing with this on my mommyblog, June Cleaver Nirvana because the SEO information I got from researching says I have way too many outgoing links...over 400. I hate to get rid of my blogroll, but if I could reduce my outgoing exposure in other ways that would be helpful. I have about 20 ning profiles across the web with my June Cleaver Nirvana RSS. The burbmom.net site is just a few months old.

I am off to work on some of your ideas. I REALLY appreciate it. I have been reading all sorts of SEO books, but not many people want to sit down and talk SEO! hahaha. I love it and could spend the weekend chatting about it...fascinating!

That is a great idea. I write for mom owned businesses and I might try breaking down geographically eventually but right now it is just fun helping other moms I know and meeting new moms online. I will look at your blog, even though I am in Florida.

Hi,

 

I am back.  Over the last few years I have worked on the SEO and finally decided that I needed "Dallas" in my title so that it is in every article URL, etc.

Burb Mom became She is Dallas two months ago and the search engine traffic has improved dramatically. 

 

Because we are a multi-author blog, I am now having another problem.  I often re-publish articles from years past when we have the need for a certain subject.  When I schedule them, it unpublishes them...Google sees this as broken links.  Is there any way that I can re-schedule an article without un-publishing it so that it can appear on the front page with a new date but seamlessly?

I am so proud of you ... your site is wonderful :) Congrats!!!

That is more of a coding issue than SEO Marketing, you know? You need to get into the code and adjust the algorithm for dates shown on the homepage - probably in the Functions.php

An alternative could be to publish a new blog post that provides summary and links to that older one - OR - keep SO MUCH fresh relative content coming, so that you do not have time to worry about reposting (smile - that was just a joke) ...
