I've been tested more by my 3 year old twins this past week, than in their entire little existence. Is it their age? Or because we're ALL sick and don't have our normal wits about us? ugh. Also, does juiceboxjungle have some sort of nanny cam in my house or something? How do they know this is a hot spot for me at the moment?

All I know is I'm feeling a lot like Frank Costanza over here. My methods for reacting and calming myself down are (almost) reaching comical status. Example:

Son (in a really whiny voice for the tenth time in the past 5 minutes): "But I want THREE- not 2!"

Me (trying to answer yet again, in a semi-calm, rational voice): "No..., you're having 2."

Son (now flips to hysteric mode): "NOOOOOO! I WANT THREE!". (He's flailing his arms and contorting on the floor.)

Me (I've reached my limit): "TAKE A DEEP BREATH! STOP crying and CALM DOWN! IF YOU DON"T STOP CRYING, GO TO YOUR ROOM!"

Son (back to a semi-quiet whiny/hysteric) whimpers: "But I want THREE"

Me (I can't believe he wont' give this up): "TAKE another DEEP BREATH! STOP CRYING OR GO TO YOUR ROOM! I'm modeling 'taking a breath' like I'm in la maze class.

Yeah, good times. I'm finding myself in more of these verbal battles, and it's not that pleasant. Maybe 3 is when they want to test the waters (that's fine), and I'm now expecting more from them. So we're figuring it out.

It's sort of like doing a dance- back and forth, to and fro- right? Currently, we're Krumping with a splash of Modern Dance when doing 'lifts' to time out. How's it going in your household? Would love to hear about it:)

Lol...I can relate! It's definitely the age. My pediatrician told me that it should be called the "terrible 3's" not the "terrible 2's", as it seems to get worse around this age. I went through it with my daughter (now 4 1/2) and am currently getting a taste of it with my 2 1/2 yr. old twin boys.
I'm sure being sick dosn't help either. :-( Hang in there!
thanks:) It's been a few weeks now and it's MUCH better. In hindsight, we had a combo of me/hubby returning from a week away, coupled w/each child being sick including myself with sinus infection. All of this did not help;), but we're doing better now....but we'll see:)

It is a continuous cycle. My twin girls are six and my son will soon be five. If any one of the three is sick, grumpy, tired, or just in a leave me alone mood then the whole balance of the house is thrown off. Things have definitely improved since the girls started school. It gives them time away from each other and I think they actually miss each other. When they were all home every day, all day I thought this is it- this is the day I am actually going to go crazy. But right before my brain snapped one would usually come give me a hug or say something sweet and bring me back from the brink one more time. The best thing I have learned to do is try to put myself in their shoes. They are little individuals and sometimes don't understand that mommie is tired and has only had three hours sleep. All they know is I am the one taking care of them and they don't understand why they can only have two. That helps. And for everything else there is your friends and wine.
