I'm going through some rough times right now and reading always helps me but I'm a little stuck. I need some good fiction or memoir/biography on strong women, something truly inspirational or motivating about females who persevered and succeeded despite the tough times in their lives, without really much support from others, females who weren't afraid to speak for themselves and who knew what they wanted, never gave up especially when they hit the rough waters. Any ideas?

Have you read The Help or The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood?  Oh, or Secret Life of Bees?  Also, the soundtrack for Waiting to Exhale is amazing for tough times.  Hope you find this helpful :)
The "Wicked" series by Gregory Maguire, especially the first one.  You will really appreciate the Elfaba character.
I second The Help by Kathryn Stockett!  It immediately came to mind when I read your post and it is one of my favorite books I have recently read.  I hope you haven't read it yet!
I third The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It is a phenomenal read with FOUR strong women leads.
When I'm bummed, I head for science fiction romance. Linnea Sinclair writes some great, kick butt heroines and the stories are so fun, very escapist.
