I would pay all my bills, I would give money to each of my three sons, I would give money to my parents and my mother in law. I would also donate to animal welfare and cancer research. Then I would go to a spa where they help you lose weight and I'd lose 30 lbs. I'd also have some "freshening" done to my face so I don't look my 41 years. Lastly, I'd go on vacation and take my whole family with me.
I would buy my friend a car she needs desperately, take the family on a group vacation, and pay off my sister's mortgages and then keep doing exactly what I am doing - I love it!
I would find a good investment firm to handle the money!
First and foremost I would pay off the mortgage to the house to get rid of the mortgage company who has given us nothing but trouble since they took over.I would also pay off our student loans. I think secondly I would then have to donate some money to the study for autism research. I would put money away for the kids college education. I am not sure what I would with the rest.
I can relate to number 2 been there myself..would love to read it...you don't need a million dollars to do this go for it!!!

It's really hard to decide exactly what I would do... but...while I am dreaming.

First, I would get my family health insurance!
Second, I would publish my own book(s) and donate a large percentage of profits, if I made any, to the causes they are directly associated with (suicide prevention being one of them!).
Third, I would buy (completely paid for) a beautiful but very humble home with a heated pool so I could swim and take care of my body and mind. (fibromyaglia and depression)
Fourth, I would make wise investments, go back to school and put money away for my kids (education, wedding, etc.)
Fifth, I would make a serious contribution to a charity, but it would be so hard to decide which one, more than likely something to do with suicide prevention/mental health issues, but oh my gosh, so hard to decide.

And since 5 is my favorite number I will stop there! =)
I would begin to travel the world with my family. Going to not just touristy traps, but also third world countries - exposing my children to the whole world and then work with them to figure out how we could best use the money to make a difference with the money - which would be the balance left after deducting a new home in South Carolina complete with an inground pool and multi level Trek deck for entertaining. :)

Oh, and if you had had asked me last week, I would have said I would buy a new Chevy Traverse, but I've now become smitten with the NEW Honda Odyssey... ;)
What would I do if I suddenly woke up and had $1 Million?
First, I would pay off all of our debt: mortgage, credit cards, etc... Then, we would have to do some much-needed repairs/updates to the house: new roof (possibly a metal roof?), install geothermal heating so we can finally use the upstairs during winter, and install flooring over the concrete in the basement. Next, I would buy an SUV so we can finally tote both our daughter and our dogs. I would then donate some to my college alma matter and to the college I currently work for. I would also fund some projects that some friends of mine are working on and donate to The Real Diaper Association (increasing awareness of cloth diapers). After all of that, hubby and I would plan an awesome trip to somewhere far away: Australia/New Zealand?, China?, Brazil? I'm not sure where, but it will be FAR away! If there is anything left after all of that :-) we will save it to make sure we don't get in over our heads ever again!
Wow, a million dollars could really go a long way!
I would pay off our debt first. Then I would give to our local food bank & shelter. And save some money for a much needed family vacation to Disney World since we haven't been able to take my son there.
A million dollars would get over 100,000 pajamas and books to children in homeless shelters, children who have been taken from their homes into emergency foster care, and kids living in poverty. That's a lot of scared kiddos who would be comforted!
Wow..A million dollars!

I would first get our family out of debt. Pay off everything, including student loans.
With my family unemployed, I would actually save most of it. But I would look for, and then buy a house, furnish it and provide the most amazing Christmas.
Also, 3 of my children have Neurofibromatosis, 1 child with a severe brain tumor. I would donate at least 50,000 dollars to a wonderful organization called the Children's Tumor Foundation. This charity has wonderful information about NF, and provides a hope for a cure..or treatment.
I would pay off debt, buy a nice, modest home in the area I live now with a mother-in-law house (for the mother-in-law who is in nursing home), probably quit my job to stay home with them and help run my husband's photography career (that he has put on hold to work a real job to support us). Sigh... if only. I can see myself walking my son to kindergarten with the baby, volunteering more at the school, helping mom... seeing my husband happy with his work again
I would continue our life the way it is and put away most of it for the future. With 3 kids college is going to be a HUGE burden and with 2 of them daughters I would want to give them the weddings of their dreams. I also want my husband to retire at a reasonable age. Living a normal lifestyle with little perks here and there would be great but a a bright future would make me really happy.
