Start to adjust the schedule -- no more summer schedule & time to get used to the school year schedule! :)
I make sure my kids are ready by having them do some school work all summer, like Summer Bridge.
Since we are only in preschool it's just getting ready for two days a week.  But I just make sure to have the backpack handy and label the sippy cups. :)
We go shopping for school clothes, including new socks, underwear and shoes.  We also get the recommended list of school supplies.  As for the going to bed routine, I'm sort of lax about an official bedtime even during school, so we don't do that!!!
I prepare all summer whether it is having the kids read and write book reports, revisit math during the summer, and via purchasing supplies and having them ready before school starts. We are ready mentally, scholastically, and all!
We spend the couple weeks before school starts getting school supplies and new clothes.. And trying to have as much fun as possible before school starts!
Drop the kids off at grandma's house for a day. That makes doing all the school shopping errands quick and easy. Plus, gives mom a chance to have lunch with dad for a day or have some quiet time on her own.
I love shopping for back to school supplies. I always pick up something to donate. :)
I don't have to really get ready YET, but when I was a teacher, I would prep a bunch of freezer meals, stock up on handy snacks for school lunches for my husband and myself (we are both teachers) and do a big house cleaning since I would no longer be on "vacation" and wanted to start the year fresh with a very clean house! :)
A week before school starts the bedtime schedule starts, as does getting up early and having breakfast together!!!

Our kids start school on Thursday the 25th, the school system here tries to "ease" them into it by going on a thurs/friday then having the weekend off, then the following week they'll only go to school for 4 days Mon thru Thurs & then they give them a 4 day weekend for labor day.

Truth be told I think the school system does it more for the parents then for the kids! LOL

We meet the teachers on Monday 22nd, then they go for haircuts & besides getting in the groove to wake up early again, we're all set. :)

We get ready by getting our lessons together, a new outfit and discuss our learning adventures :)
