Looking for a new book to read, any suggestions?

Looking for a new book to read, has anyone read any of the books that were turned into one of the 2011 Oscar movie nominees?

My favorite new book right now is: "Nurture Shock"

It's like the book Freakonomics for parents. It talks about conventional ideas about parenting and shows recent findings that call it into question. It's a super fast read, each chapter is really a self-contained topic. After reading it I felt like there is a lot more mystery to "parenting" than most "experts" want to admit. :) Which is always a good feeling!

How about 100 Years of Solitude, if you haven't read it already.  Really great book--an oldie but goodie

I loved The Help as well; also really liked The Poisonwood Bible.
I loved "The Heights" by Peter Hedges. It was a page turner. :)
Kite Runner is an excellent book!!!  It is so good, I don't even know what to say about it without ruining anything.  It is about a man who grew up in the middle east and moved to America.  It is about things that have happened in his life.

house of prayer #2 is great for book clubs (FYI, giving away 2 on my blog!)

also

The Memory Palace

and

madame tussaud by michelle moran (IT IS BIG though!)

I second the recommendation of Nurtureschock.  I finished it recently, and really enjoyed it.  If you like "momoirs" try Ayelet Waldman's Bad Mother.  I liked it a lot.

For fiction, I recently read Anchee Min's Pearl of China, which is a fictionalization of the life of Pearl S. Buck.
