bullying hit too close to me. My niece who is in high school was jumped from behind and beat up as a teacher stood there and watched but did nothin! my little girl who just graduated to 6th grade will be going to middle school and it scares me to death. we need to have teachers in these schools who will help us parents stop this cycle. i dont want these kind of kids to be in our society they need to be stopped.

Permalink Reply by Valerie Moyer on September 17, 2012 at 8:20pm bullying is horrible anymore. I'm afraid to send my kids to school half of the time and if I have an issue and call they almost never call back until I threaten police action. Its ridiculous, if the teachers don't watch out for our kids who will. I can completely understand why so many moms choose to homeschool these days

Permalink Reply by Aneatra Dorsey on October 2, 2012 at 3:39pm Tammy, I very sorry that your niece had to go through something so horrid but hope she is doing much, much better. Esther brought up two very good points and I would also like to add that common courtesy is no longer common regardless of the school.
My eldest had an issue with a teach in middle school and when we brought it up to the faculty they responded in a mob mentality that was shocking to say the least. There have been no issues prior or since, thank goodness and he is now a senior in high school.
I was not so lucky with my youngest. There were just too many issues with the faculty and students alike which is why he has been home schooled since '09. If things change for the better we might consider public school again but for the mean time we'll stay with k12 which is a great virtual public school. They go overboard with all the testing but have no complaints otherwise.

Permalink Reply by Joanne on October 2, 2012 at 11:27pm I would never send my kids to school - we've been unschooling for the last eight years. School is not even part of our lives.
Permalink Reply by Melissa Beverly Hills Mom on October 10, 2012 at 11:37am I personally would never send my kids to public school because I simply don't like the dynamic but I also know some families do not have same luxury. Bullying happens everywhere but some areas are certainly worse than others, I never witnessed anything like what you see on the news when I was a kid and I am not that old at all. It is scary as parents but I think we also need to remember that with the media and the anti-bully push these days the worst of the worst cases are brought to the fore front and the majority of kids survive highschool unscathed. Best of luck.

We recently moved and switched from homeschooling to a public elementary school a couple of blocks away. I work at the school everyday, so I see my children about every two hours because it is a concerned to me too.
