How to manage summer vacation and a home business?

I've been juggling summer vacation with my home business.  Trying to keep a balence between the two and still find time for the house, myself, and reading.

  • Use a schedual for each day
  • Have the week-end for fun activies
  • Rain days for reading and crafts
  • Making late night writing
  • Getting up at 4 am
  • Get my child to study or write while I read
  • While it's quite make phone calls

What tips do you have?

because my kids need to wake up in the morning for daycamp, I put them to bed between 7 and 8. That way I can have back to back phone appointments at 8, 9, and 10. Oftentimes I'll leave the 9:00 slot free so I can work out-- like tonight I have an 8:00 and 10:00 phone appointment and plan to work out at 9:00. While they're at daycamp I check my email and process orders, etc. The afternoon/evening is all about them.
My son is in and out the door all day long with friends. I've taken the time to do things with him and his friends but, this is a tough challege. One week he will attend camp hopefully I'll get some real money coming in then. Phone calls sometimes start out at 1pm and end at 10pm I call in Ca. there's a four hour difference there.
I have been working from home for the past 8 years, but this is the first year that my children who are a little older are not attending a day camp. Getting up earlier than they do definitely works, and I love the quiet time, but I find it is the late day hours, like three o'clock that are the most challenging. I always try to make dates for them with their friends in the afternoon. Or invite their friends over, so they can entertain themselves, within my supervision. When they were smaller, setting them up with a simple craft while I had to take an important call always worked.. or my favorite the "mystery bag". I would buy small toys that I would put in the bag and give to them whenever I needed to make a phone call. These would be toys that they did not have full access too, so they always felt special when I allowed them to play with them. If they asked for them, I would make sure I needed a bit of uninterrupted time before I gave them the "mystery bag" ... New videos also worked great.
Thank you for the great idea I really like the mystery bag. I wonder what he'll think, I keep you posted. I've just recently gone back to rotateing toys. Putting some away and bring some others out this gives him the chance to feel like they're special again. I love the mornings too and all that I can do in peace its a blessed time. Thanks for writing in.

Great question? How can you do both?
What about taking your kids up to the library? You can bring your phone and laptop or use one of their computers. It might give you a little bit of time(depending on the ages of your children). Our library has computers for the kids and a story time to keep them busy.

Do you really get up at 4 am???
I found it was really important for me to notice my daughter's "good times" of the day and I work then. She's much easier to get involved with something during that time, and it just happens to be my good work time.

I've decided it's not worth trying to fight through her rough times and try to work ~ we do other fun things during that time, which makes it easier to get through, and give us quality time.

I have found that spending some quality time engaged with her one on one makes it much easier for her to get engaged with something on her own when I do need to work.

She's gone this week though (at VBS at her grandma's out of town) ... and I can't believe how much I'm getting done!
Yes I do and it's really nice then I can catch up on email. Do some posts and read some I've even go out side before the sun rise it's a really nice experience. Should try it some time. Thanks for tips I have only once used our library for phone calls while my son was on the computer. It really did work.

That's an excellent tip working when he's having a good time so, I can be more productive too. Makes real good sense. I really enjoyed him working with me on a assignment I made for him while I studied some myself. We would stop to share our thoughts and continue to finish our work together. It was a very nice have us both have a good time together. Thank you for the comment.

I like the library idea there he usually gets busy on the computer and keeps getting some pratice with an activity. Although I've never brought my computer to the library but, seen others that do that might be better than running home for info. Why I did not think of it. Thanks for writing in.
