How has your dad influenced your parenting skills?

In honor of Father's Day, I thought I'd start a discussion about our dads and how they have influenced our parenting skills. What life lessons did your dad teach you that you are passing onto your children?

I come from a culture which is male dominated but my father taught me that being female was no impedent in life.

Unfortuantly my dad worked all the time with me growing up so now with my children I try to spend all the time I have with them. My dad was a wonderful provider and was there when he could be but he had to work alot.

Because of my Parents I do alot of things the way they did and some different than they did, or I try. Being older now I understand why they did the things they did then!
