before 8:30 I'm a mom. From 8:30 to 11:00 I work and try not to think about mommy things (kids are at preschool). From 11:00 to 7:30 I'm mom again. After 7:30 when the kids are in bed I work again. I work at home and make my own schedule... this way I get a good 3-5 hours of work time a day and plenty of mommy time.
Saturdays i'm only a mommy and Sundays I split a bit--- if my husband can be on the kids I'll sometimes do an afternoon phone or in person client appointment on sundays.
It's HARD to balance both!

Permalink Reply by Diapercakesbylatersa on January 13, 2011 at 1:35pm Well, I too had that problem before i revamped a new schedule. Everything is about my kids and hubby until 10am. I work on my business from 10-6pm. From 6-8:30p.m. is mommy and kiddies time; 8:30p.m. to 10p.m. is all about the hubby. And then guess what Its time for me to go to B.E.D. This seems to be working for me so far. Because my son is in preschool from 8:15-2:15p.m. So, its me and my daughter except for Wed. she goes to daycare. I would say if you have to re do your schedule until you find out which one works best for you and your household.

Permalink Reply by Philippa Maze on January 14, 2011 at 12:18pm Hi Susana, thanks for commenting. I do that myself, working on weekdays while allotting the entire weekend for my family. It's just that I can't help but feel a bit jealous of other moms who get to spend everyday with their husband and kids. :) Anyway, I'll follow your lead and make sure that our weekends make up for the 'lost' time. Take care!

I try to spend as much time as possible with my daughter, husband, and dog after work and on the weekends. It is hard to balance, but quality time is better than quantity of time is how I feel. And I do not feel guilty when I do not have as much time to spend because I know I will make up for it when I do spend time with them.

Permalink Reply by Philippa Maze on January 14, 2011 at 12:22pm Hi Nancy! I had that problem, too! As a work-at-home mom, my mind could easily get sidetracked by the other things I see at home. So yes, let's all reorganize our schedules for the better :)

I'm finding I really need to firm up my "work hours". Because my work in internet based I could be on here all day -easily! But I find it can be very distracting. I like to work as soon as I get up in the morning so I try to get up earlier especially for that reason. I'm still trying to define my hours. I love what I do so yes, it's hard!.
Permalink Reply by Philippa Maze on January 14, 2011 at 12:24pm Thanks for replying Wendy. I should have done that a long time ago! When I was younger, I was a bit workaholic and was not able to listen to my body properly. Thankfully I was able to balance things better and now that I'm a mom, I really need to keep that balance. Thanks for pointing that one out!

Wow Heather, your situation seems rather new to me, although I'm a work-at-home mom myself, I can't help but think of my kids while I'm working and my job while I'm with my kids! I sure could use some of your focus :) I'll try to do that but you're right, it's really hard!
