I was appalled this morning when hearing the news of Hustler's Larry Flynt and "Girls Gone Wild's" Joe Francis asking for a 5 billion dollar government bailout. It seems there is no such thing as a recession proof industry after all. Come on where is it going to end? Is the government really expected to help out the porn industry? Flynt is quoted as saying Congress must "rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America." I’m not sure about your feelings on the topic, but since when is the government responsible for that? Nice try Mr. Flynt. How do we approach a conversation with our children on the topic? Well kids health care is out but porn is in, it seems a little rediculous?

Ditto ... hubby and I laughed out loud when we first read this. As I stated earlier ... sometimes it takes the absurd (the absurd here being Larry Flint asking for a bail out for the Porn industry) to point out the obvious (the obvious being that the government should not AND can not bail out every failing and/or troubled business/industry.

After all, where does the money come from for these bail out? ... not from the Government (cause the government has no money or wealth) inevitably it comes from you and I ... the taxpayer.

Hopefully this Larry Flint stunt will call attention to the real mess we're in.

I think this is Larry Flynt's way of making a point with our government....just where does the bailout stop. And who decides what segment of the private business world will keep our country out of a depression if bailed out.

I just laughed when I saw it. I really don't think he is doing it in seriousness. I think he is being sarcastic and facetious.

Bingo. I'm surprised more people didn't get the joke, tbh.
I thought the bailout was getting out of control before....
I have mixed feelings about *any* industry being bailed out. When businesses fail, I don't really think giving them more money will fix the problem -- there's a reason the business failed, and that has to be fixed -- I can see how money might help in the short term, but long term, businesses need to improve how they function or they'll just fail again.
Exactly ... we try to teach our children to think before they act, that actions have consequences, and that we should learn from our mistakes. And yet we are NOT expecting or requiring the same from these businesses and corporations that are failing.

Bail outs are a band-aid fix for a much larger problem ... and until the source of that problem is recognized and dealt with, the problem remains ... no matter who requests the bail out!

I laughed, too, because that's exactly what it is - Flynt is making a point how absurd the bailout is. Besides, who really is on this list to receive money (which comes from the TAXPAYERS)? I'll bet there are more nefarious industries on it than those who produce porn. Like companies who: sell "blood diamonds", produce assault weapons, refuse to provide free or cheap medications to developing nations, exploit the poor or underrepresented, force employees to work in unsafe environments...the list goes on.
It's just ludicrous - and our politicians need to control their own sexual appetites not increase ours!
I have to admit Flint is making a good point. As absurd as it is to consider the bailout of the adult entertainment industry, what qualifies as an appropriate industry to bailout? How can we expect after completely upsetting the concept of supply and demand by artificially buoying various industries that equilibrium can be maintained?
