I was just curious how many other Moms on here are active in book clubs or reading clubs either in person or online? What do you like and not like about them? Do you do it more for the socializing aspect or to find new books to read?

I am in a book club, mostly for the socializing aspect, although it is interesting to read books that I normally wouldn't choose.  My book club actually used to be our kids' playgroup.  Now that the kids are too old for playgroup we have  a bookclub instead!   Since I've moved out of the neighborhood book club gives me a great chance to stay in touch with the old neighbors!
I joined paperbackswap.com a few months ago. It's really nice because you set up a profile with books you like to read and topics you are interested in. You earn credits to trade books with other readers. Basically, every time you send a book you get credit to receive a book. It's great if you read a lot and are often looking for new books. They have a lot of the older titles nobody carries anymore, too.
I LOVE paperbackswap! They have tons of games, fun stuff and like you said, I have been able to get lots of books that I wouldn't normally have purchased in the store. I really like their games though. They make it fun:)

I have been invited for years to join Book Clubs but recently joined one online to support my friend AIDS activist Rae Lewis-Thornton. It has proven to be fun and engaging. Once I was an avid reader, but life has been in the way of that so just getting back into it now! So funny, I just wrote a blog post about it, and then ran into this discussion!
I joined one a year ago and still have not shown up!  I did just get the next book we are reading.  This is a group through church and we read a wide variety of books and look for Christian themes as part of the discussion.
Just started my first online "book club" at http://www.raisingthebarrs.com to coincide with the one I am leading in real life. Figured the more participation, the better!! My husband is a librarian and gets paid to lead book clubs! I'll be leaning on him for advice on making it interesting.
I tried a book club last summer from Meetup.com. Although the moms were nice, it was a bit too Desperate Housewives. It was less about books and more about wine, lol. Another mom @skipperphoto and I are going to start a small business book club to motivate us and help our businesses. I'm also on goodreads.com if anyone else is there; would love to share book recs.
