Hi all,

I'm a mum of four, and I've just published my first novel on Amazon, after spending my evenings for the last 2 years writing it.

The trouble is, Amazon don't seem to do anything to promote new books by unknown authors, so nobody knows it exists!

Anybody else tried their hand at novel writing? And if so, any tips?

My book is called Out Of The Mouths Of Babes by Sarah Pearce, and it's a lighthearted fictional novel, written to appeal to mums.

If anybody is interested in a look, it's available for the Kindle, ipad, iphone, Smartphone, Blackberry and Android. And it's £1.98 from Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com

Thanks Roe. It really gives me a boost when I get messges of encouragement like this.

Are your stories childrens or adults. I wondered if this may be of any interest to you x

Do you secretly have a book inside you? Would you like to see it published?

Enter the Walker Books/Mumsnet writing competition and your story could be included in an illustrated gift book of Bedtime Stories for the under-sevens. For your chance to be considered, submit your original manuscript of up to 1,500 words by 30 November 2012.

Over the next month we're going running some Q&A sessions and webchats with children's book authors and will keep you posted about this on this thread

The eBook will show you how to coupon to maximize your savings, use your food stamps to get free stuff, where to get free stuff, & make $ !!! IT'S FREE !!! http://eepurl.com/nG-bH

There is lots you can do as a self-published author and most of it is free! I would say that your first priority is to set up a simple clean website (wordpress is great) and have everyone you know add your book to their wishlist as this will slightly increase your rankings. Also do whatever you can to encourage readers to leave reviews. You should also add your Facebook link to your Amazon author page as well as website link (once created)

I do a lot of online promotions for books and am actually launching my company in the coming months. If anyone on this thread could fill out this quick 5 question survey it would mean the world to me (and even more if you would share it!) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WPS5JTW

Thanks and best of luck on your book sales, Sarah!

Thank you for the advice, Tracy. I have considered setting up a website, but simply hadn't gotten around to it. My head's spinning with all the promoting I'm trying to do for my book - whilst also writing my next one. But I shall heed your advice and get on to it. I have completed your survey. And thanks again for your help.

Also, for anybody who may be interested, my book is now available on Smashwords

And still available from Amazon

I have so much on my kindle to get through now- it may get lost in the shuffle. I have added it to my wishlist for now!
