Event Description

SEASONS OF SHARING: LAS POSADAS
Children’s Museum of Houston celebrates Mexican holiday with piñatas, poinsettias and dance as part of Seasons of Sharing
December 9 – 15

WHAT: Las Posadas commemorates Mary and Joseph's journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of "posada" or refuge. During the nine-day holiday, Mexican villagers set out luminaries and form a procession through the streets in their honor ending with a nightly celebration!

Celebrate Las Posadas as part of Seasons of Sharing, Houston’s only multicultural holiday exhibit for children spotlighting seven cultural celebrations on display Nov. 13 through Jan. 9.

Las Americas Ballet Folklorico: Catch a vibrant traditional Mexican dance show that will bring you to your feet!
Thursday, Dec. 9: 6:30 p.m. during Free Family Night
Saturday, Dec. 11: 2 p.m.

Las Posadas Workshop with Barbara Clemente: Put your skills to work to create sparkling poinsettia ornaments.
Saturday, Dec. 11: noon - 2 p.m.

Toy Take-Apart—Behind the Scenes with Toys: Bring in an old toy or use a toy collected from local thrift shops to take-apart at the Inventors’ Workshop. Find out what makes them work or learn how you can use them to make "new" toys.
Thursday to Sunday: All Day

Cone Cup Piñata: Head over to Junktion to decorate your own piñata to hang in celebration of Las Posadas.

Christmas Tree Ornament: Make a brightly colored ornament at Junktion to hang in your house for the holiday.

Poinsettias: Swing by Junktion where you can make your own beautiful flower to remember the legend of the Poinsettia—how a bouquet of weeds burst into blooms of brilliant red, Poinsettias during Noche Buena (Holy Night).
